What is the most offensive/idiotic piece of WT literature you've read from the past 20 years (approximately)?

i think that some of the dumbest were ones that pertained to science- not all of them, but a few, particularly the ones about evolution.

the most offensive (and also dumbest) were the ones about women, and the ones about rape.

those were horrible.

The most offensive is hands down the new brochures at the convention. They actually suggest we use the 'advanced' version in our ministry here in the US. It's offensive to think anyone at the door needs something that simplistic.

The 'simple' version is for use with people that can't read/write it consists of a few pictures on each page and 1 scripture on each page. Instead of teaching them to read/write we should teach them 1 scripture per page and use the 'advanced' version to teach them what the pictures mean (the advanced version is the same but has very simple words next to each picture).

Even for somebody that's illiterate, it would be offensive to simply show them some pictures without words, keep a version of the same brochure WITH words for yourself and then teach them what the bible says you should do with your life based on them (they're not children and even children would be offended if they are at a level to comprehend the issues being discussed). You could take your time and read to them, you could take your time and teach them how to read.

but just curious after you left jehovahs witnesses did you look into other religions?

or are any of you currently involved in any other religions now?.

I'm becoming an atheist. Although it's not a religion - it's NOT, it's a way of thinking critically, actually, it's thinking for yourself instead of letting others do it for you - I am getting convinced that God and Bible are born in somebody's imagination and everyone should be free to either believe or not believe in it.

so we had a 'special' visitor today in our hall, somebody from patterson, young fellow with a wife.

off course i didn't catch that at first until he started name dropping in the first 5 minutes that he was from bethel .

so he goes on rambling about how we live in the last days and blah-di-blah .

I'm not sure I can go the Bible route, she doesn't attempt to understand it, she merely follows whatever she is supposed to believe (she previously said "I just follow what is said, I don't really care, I have my own thoughts on some things"). She KNOWS that the religion is wrong on some points and has admitted basically that she's only there for her family and friends. She KNOWS it can't be Holy Spirit guiding them, especially after today, she (and everyone else there should also) KNOWS shit changes every day in that religion, they have today admitted they were wrong right from the stage.

I still had to point it out to her, look, they just said this has changed and they quoted the publications where you can see the differences and then they admitted they are not sure about the 10 toes (they used the word "Apparently" which I wrote down, underlined and they kept using it a couple of times). She looked at me with a quizzical look, fear w/ watery eyes (you're not believing?) and then as the word "Apparently" kept getting repeated in the talk enlightenment (brighter face, tilted head, hmm, my hubby is right).

The JW's these days are conditioned. They are conditioned to think they are 'free' to think whatever they want but you should not think on whatever you take in if it comes from the Watchtower. Not studying the WT way is a sure-way to die at Armageddon.

She fears the repercussions however, she just wants to be there for her family I think. She is conditioned to think a certain way and that's what I have to break through. She is conditioned to think that whatever the bible says is too hard to understand for us (that's another thing they kept repeating this convention, you are too stupid to understand what is written, you need to study our publications), we need WT pubs and the light keeps getting brighter and everybody that doesn't agree is an apostate and will get disfellowshipped.

The thing is I don't even believe the bible myself. No offense if you still do but it's full of illogical things.

Sorry about your wife. I'm sure she will feel persecuted after you tried to get her back into your faith and left her when she got baptized and she will be blessed for her perseverance by Jehovah. Yes, it's wrong for an unbelieving husband to try to convince someone not to be a Jehovah's Witness (that's persecution) but she will be blessed for trying to convince you to become a Jehovah's Witness (that's preaching).

Either way, too bad she's getting baptized before she will learn about the new light that the GB says they were wrong about before (they admit it straight from the stage). So does she think the Governing Body from a few months ago got disfellowshipped?

This convention blows

seriously, half day in (already had an argument with the wife this morning about individuality in the organization in which she conceded that a lot of it is based on looks) and this is already getting on my nerves.

i'll post a rebuttal based on my annotations later in the week but one thing i got to get off my mind: saying the feminist movement (women going to work instead of staying home) and the diversity laws (allowing for homosexuality - but also religious freedom, racial discrimination etc.

) caused a lot of the problems in our world right from the stage.. there are less people here than last year - about 500 less..

To get this thing back on track: Today was the best day of them all. All fresh about Jesus and his wonderful works, sprinkled with a bit of poor, overactive acting and some cultic references until the last talk. The introduction (paraphrased) "If you're a Jehovah's Witness, you will understand this, if you're visiting you won't, don't worry, just study with the JW's to understand it".

Then into the statue of Daniel and the 10 toes mean nothing (flip-flop?).

Also, gays are bad and even though clergy and doctors say there's nothing wrong with it, there is. Quote (not kidding): "For those here that are visiting and you have these thoughts, you can be healed if you study with Jehovah's Witnesses and apply the truths that you find in the bible" Then goes on about a guy in Mexico that was abused as a child and thought he was gay until he studied and got a wife and kids and became an elder (healed! - or maybe he's diddling the kids in the back room of his KH).

Also, Armageddon is really close now. We're not sure yet about the toes (Quote: "Apparently this doesn't mean anything"). The feet of clay and iron: the iron is the Anglo-American world power and the clay is the stuff that makes it divisive such as and I quote "The Labor Unions and The Civil Rights movements". We are in the days of the last world power, there will be NO other (some overly zealous ones afterwards: "I can just feel Armageddon is really close now, I mean the US is losing it's power and there won't be another world power so it must be close").

They actually came right out and said that this interpretation has changed so they're getting better on the admitting of mistakes (thanks to the internet I guess).

I think I'll just go ahead of the FDS and interpret the iron being Anglo-America and the clay being China (you know because they have that clay army that the Bible predicted).

Also, Social Networking is bad because lots of JW's go on and go have random sex.

Today at the DA: We should be careful of ELDERS being apostates. "Recently, an extensive effort has been made by apostates to contact all elders in all circuits".

My wife found out about me (a little bit). I didn't say I'm an "apostate".

-NO.

-Well, why not. Are you saying you don't believe anymore?

-I do believe in the bible but there are certain things I can't accept and teach my family anymore.

She almost cried. She now knows a bit about why I'm trying to avoid meetings. But then she got calm and accepted it.

We left around 5:30 and had a discussion in the car until 8:00 about the message at the convention, 1914, overlapping generation, blood, hemopure, evolution, disfellowshipping, holy spirit, spirit directed organization, judicial committee's, holy spirit appointments of elders & servants.

She doesn't know anything about 1914 or the overlapping generation, doesn't understand it, doesn't really care actually. She thinks I'm wrong about the current generations as thought by the WTBTS, she had a more plausible explanation (the generation simply being all anointed ever, they won't pass away simply meaning they'll be in paradise) that would've worked but doesn't set an end-time for the end. She actually said: I think blood is a conscientious decision, the elders shouldn't meddle in your decision and she'll make a decision on it when she needs to. She wouldn't mind if I make a conscientious decision not to be an elder or servant anymore.

I'm allowed to bring some proof of what I say to the family study. I'll bring some Watchtowers off course. We had a bit of discussion about the resurrection of my unborn child (with my ex). She thinks I'll have 2 kids in the paradise, she feels that a loving God would do that (let's see what the WTBTS flip-floppers say (yes, no, yes, no - playing with somebody's feelings like that is evil)).

The explanation for tigers no longer in the paradise pictures: They're going extinct and it may be that we're not going to be able to play with them in Paradise (that's from a Bethel-vet, no kidding).

I noticed a lot of Bethel-vets giving the talks instead of locals. I haven't even seen my CO or DO and they haven't given a single talk. The Bethelites are all introduced as "Brother so-and-so, working faithfully for xx years from the Bethel family at Walkill/Patterson/Brooklyn". The rest is just Brother so-and-so from Congregation X.

So many things. One of the things that is getting emphasized: (After reading Jesus' message and parts from the letters from Paul) "This was off course meant for the Anointed Class. The rest of us Other Sheep are by extension included to do the Preaching Work"

Preaching Work, Preaching Work, Kingdom, Kingdom, hardly any mention of Jesus or the message. Let's talk about his miracles: He did this. Now the application is: go more in service!

It's the whipping 'into action or else' for every talk. The new thing they're trying to push: "Heads of households should see if they can't work part time and go in the pioneer work" (quote from another Bethel vet).

I'm really getting sick of the message. It's literally nauseating. The drama: simplify your life, do family study, give your kid a fluff brochure that is easily refuted and you magically will have a better family. Let me repeat something that I was almost going to scream at the stage: EVOLUTION DOES NOT ATTEMPT TO EXPLAIN ABIOGENESIS, EVOLUTION DOES NOT SAY CELLS POP INTO PLACE IN ALL IT'S COMPLEXITY.

During the program I noticed her rolling her eyes when they said we should simplify and work part time and do more. Also when they talked about the features of the new brochure: "I think people would be insulted if we tried to offer this in this area". That's the thing with current young Witnesses, they don't care about the message, it's a church, they go because of the family and they never had any other viewpoint. They KNOW things and say it's the truth but few believe to the core. I noticed a few of my old friends from other congregations are simply not showing up anymore.

They actually had the nerve to say that Jesus appointed his apostles as the governing body of JW in the first century and the governing body is the successor to those apostles.

'Great Crowd' of 12 people get baptised at District Convention!!!

yesterday, out of 4,035 people in attendance at the dc, only 12 people were baptized.

that is one more than eleventeen and one less than a baker's dozen.. .

want to take a guess as to the age group of this 'great crowd?

We got 18 a well out of the barely 4,000 attendees. 2 old people (>50), the rest were kids (<20).
